The Carolina Panthers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 30-27 on Sunday with a game winning field goal by rookie Ryan Fitzgerald as time expired. The Panthers improved their record to 3-3 with the win, marking their first time at .500 since week 10 of the 2021 season.
Rico Dowdle, a former Cowboy and the Panthers current starting running back, had a career best game against his old team. Dowdle's 239 scrimmage yards set a new Panthers franchise record. He became the first player in franchise history to have two consecutive games with over 200 scrimmage yards. Dowdle made headlines prior to the game, telling the Cowboys to "buckle up" and after the game he said "they weren't buckled up."
Bryce Young had one of his best games of the season completing 17 of 25 passes for 199 yards and throwing 3 touchdowns. Tetairoa McMillan, a rookie wide receiver, scored his first two NFL touchdowns in the game. Rookie kicker Ryan Fitzgerald was perfect on the day, making all three extra points and all three of his field goal attempts.
With the game tied at 27 and just over six minutes left to play, the Panthers started their game winning drive on their own 29 yard line. 15 plays and 48 yards later, the 33 yard field goal was kicked.
As for the Cowboys, they lost.
Next week the Carolina Panthers travel to New York to take in the Jets.
